Send iTunes Gifts Instantly
Are you among the 125 million users with credit cards linked to iTunes? If yes, Apple makes last-minute gift giving easy to a fellow iTunes user. This week, I sent my friend and office mate his Christmas gift — the thriller Inception — using iTunes. Here’s how you can immediately send iTunes gifts via e-mail.
Launch iTunes, click iTunes Store and choose from 12 million songs, 55,000 television episodes, 8,500 movies and 300,000 iPhone apps. When you find the item to give, follow these steps.
Click the arrow on the right side of the Buy button.

A drop-down menu appears. Select the “Gift This” option.

iTunes takes you to a “Give a Gift” screen. To send the iTunes gift as an email, keep the delivery option set to “Send gift as email.” Enter your name and your recipient’s name. Make sure you have the correct email address then type it for “Recipient’s Email.” If you want to send to multiple giftees, separate the email addresses with commas. Type the e-mail address or addresses in again to verify. Now enter a brief personal message. Please note if you take too much time with your message, iTunes will time out your session and ask you to start over. Click the Continue button.
iTunes will prompt you to sign in with your Apple ID or AOL screen name and password to buy the gift. Enter both and click the Continue button. You’ll see a review page. Confirm your entries and, if correct, click the Buy Gift button. iTunes will display a “Thank You” screen indicating your gift has been sent. Within minutes, your gift recipient receives an email to redeem the gift on iTunes.

Willow for the ninth wedding anniversary present wasn’t easy. But now my choices for the traditional tenth anniversary gift are, um, tin or aluminum? Uncommon Goods (Twitter: @UncommonGoods) helped me track down two tin gifts. Fortunately, pewter is mostly tin, and I found this “He Loves Me” pewter jewelry box. My wife loves this gift; she keeps her engagement and wedding rings in this tiny pewter box. I also gave her a bouquet of tin flowers in pastel colors. These were the ideal flowers — never wilting, just a showing a little patina — to give just before we left for our anniversary getaway.

Still shopping for the holidays? You’re not alone. Nearly 55 percent of Americans are still seeking gifts, according to the National Retail Federation. That’s the highest percentage of procrastinators in the last five years. If you’re shopping online, express delivery is still available from most e-tailers over the next few days. See Dealhack.com for the shipping deadlines of 175 online stores.

When I need a coupon code for online checkout, more often than not RetailMeNot.com has it. RetailMeNot.com collects more than 150,000 coupon codes for 30,000 online stores, offering one of the best clearinghouses for instant savings.
I’ve scored discounts or free shipping for gift purchases from Cheryl & Co., ProFlowers, Z Gallerie home furnishings, iStockPhoto and more. Simply search for the retailer you are buying from and skim the coupon results. Coupons and shopping tips often include the success rate. Less successful or expired offers are ranked lower on the list. (RetailMeNot.com keeps expired coupon codes because sometimes the offers extend after their expiration dates.) You can save offline too. In April 2009, RetailMeNot.com added 90,000 printable coupons by zip code for brick-and-mortar stores.
If you know a coupon code, you can share it with others on RetailMeNot.com. With more than 4 million visitors a month, the coupon code you found will get noticed. Keep in mind that RetailMeNot.com honors those retailers requesting to have their coupon codes removed.
And it’s good to see the site owners have a sense of humor. Try the U.S. Federal Reserve Board coupon codes. Entering the code BAILOUT at the Fed gives you 25% off when you spend $700 billion or more. Type in AUTO and you’ll save 50% when you spend $50 billion or more.
